Liverpool academy graduate Trent Alexander-Arnold is among the trio of core players (with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah) whose contract runs out at the end of the ongoing season, and there have been ample rumours linking the England international with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Initial rumours suggested that the player is scheduled to move to Santiago Bernabéu on a free transfer at the end of the season; however, Spanish outlet Sport recently came to report that the Los Blancos could move for Trent in the winter transfer window after the season-ending knee ligament injury to Dani Carvajal.
Pearce denies winter Trent move to Real Madrid
Looking at the rumours, highly reliable journalist James Pearce has shut down all the reports about the 26-year-old moving to La Liga in the January transfer window. He speaks with confidence when denying a winter move for Trent, while suggesting that contract talks with the player are happening in the background despite rumours linking his Anfield exit.
Speaking on the Walk On podcast, The Athletic journalist said:
“There’s absolutely zero chance that Trent will go anywhere in January. I saw some nonsense about Real Madrid planning a bid for him in January. I don’t believe that’s true; that’s that’s absolute nonsense. My information at the moment is that there is no decision that has been taken; those [contract] talks are ongoing.”
Pearce is one of the more reliable journalists around Liverpool, and moreover, it seems intricate for the club to consider selling vice captain mid-season when the Reds are expected to compete for silverware on multiple fronts.
That being said, moving to Real Madrid would be a tempting proposition, and we can surely expect them to push for Trent in the summer window—especially if the contract situation remains as it is at the moment.
