Madrid hit roadblock to sign Trent alternative

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has been subject to links with a move away from Anfield Stadium as La Liga giants Real Madrid pursue an attempt to lure the England international to Spain. Los Blancos pursuit of the 26-year-old’s signatures is fortified by the fact that the Reds right-back is in the final year of his contract with the Merseyside club.

While Madrid looks to push for bringing Trent on a free transfer following the completion of the ongoing campaign, he has been progressing negotiations with the chiefs at Kirkby for a possible new contract. While the talks have been slow, Madrid have started looking for alternatives if a move for Alexander Arnold doesn’t work out.

Real Madrid had identified a move for Tottenham Hotspur fullback Pedro Porro as an option if they aren’t to sign TAA, per Fichajes. However, the Lilywhites would not sell the Spanish international for a cheap fee, and that could possibly block Madrid’s pursuit of the former Sporting Lisbon star.

Florentino Perez will continue to look for a long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal, who has been an integral presence at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, and it would be a difficult task to bring in someone who can have a similar impact. In Trent and Porro, they are targeting two of the better fullbacks in the English top tier; however, Perez would know how difficult it is to negotiate with Daniel Levy, and that could push them to put all of their eggs in the Trent basket.

For Liverpool, it comes as a blow to their pursuit of keeping hold of the 26-year-old, who not only knows the club in and out but also is looked at as a future captain at Anfield.
