Liverpool duo released early from international duty ahead of Chelsea clash
Liverpool boss Arne Slot has been handed a major boost in his plans for the next few weeks with two star men Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk having been released from international duty.
The club’s official website confirmed the news on Sunday and it is anticipated that both the players will be available at Arne Slot’s disposal for training effective immediately, should they not be given any time off upon returning to Liverpool.
Salah enjoyed a productive time with his national team in the only match he played. The Egyptian international scored in a 2-0 win over Mauritania last Friday to take his team closer to qualification in the African Cup of Nations.
Virgil van Dijk, meanwhile, started and played a major chunk in Netherlands’ 1-1 draw against Hungary. However, he was sent off for two yellow card offences in the second half in their Nations League bout in Budapest.
Salah and Van Dijk were due to play Mauritania again and Germany, respectively, over the week but will have added time to prepare for the Liverpool game against Chelsea next Sunday following their early release.
Arne Slot as well as the Liverpool fans will be relieved to have two key men back ahead of schedule without any fitness issues from the international break given that they have started in all their Premier League matches so far.
