Liverpool eyeing Valencia star Cristhian Mosquera

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is in the final few months of his contract at Anfield. It is still unknown as to whether or not he will be prolonging his stay at Anfield but in either case, the Reds need to begin scouring the transfer market for his replacement.

At 32, the Dutch international does not have too many years left in his tank and having been incredibly instrumental to their success in recent years, it is imperative that Liverpool sign a capable enough player to fill the vacancy Van Dijk will be leaving.

According to Spanish source Fichajes, the Premier League giants are keen on landing Valencia starlet Cristhian Mosquera next summer with the 20-year-old developing a reputation of being one of La Liga’s brightest young talents in recent months.

Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan are also thought to be interested in his signing. Though the Nerazzurri could wait until next summer to make a move, an attempt from Atleti to sign Mosquera in January itself has not been ruled out.

Valencia will make a decision on Mosquera’s sale depending on how their injury situation is come the transfer window in the winter but keeping their financial situation in mind, it is hard to foresee them being able to deny offers for him for long.

Fichajes’ report has claimed that Los Che are expected to be enticed by an offer in the range of €30 million – a sum that Liverpool should be able to afford comfortably whether it is in January or in the summer.

It remains to be seen if Atletico’s interest in Mosquera in January persuades Liverpool to attempt a swoop for the player in the winter as well.
