Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister was not among the playing party and rather watched the proceedings among the audience in Argentina’s 1-1 draw against Venezuela last week, with the former Brighton ace missing out owing to a groin injury. However, what comes as a relief for the Kop is that the player has returned to full training.
The Argentine was forced off in the Merseyside Reds last game against Crystal Palace, and despite that, he opted to join national duties. While he was training on his own in the initial days with Argentina’s squad, which led to doubts about his preparations and participation for two World Cup qualifier fixtures this month.
This led to supporters wide scrutiny for allowing the midfielder to travel, especially given his integral role at Anfield Stadium under Arne Slot’s tutelage.
Mac Allister recovers from injury, could feature against Bolivia
However, the 25-year-old has now returned to full training for Lionel Scaloni’s side, with his first session with the full group coming on Saturday. He is now in contention to play a part in Argentina’s Tuesday fixture against Bolivia, per Ole.
The Reds supporters would hope that Argentine takes caution with the player and his well-being despite his availability for the game tomorrow given his workload.
While a report by an Argentine journalist Gaston Edul (via. Tribuna) suggests that Mac Allister is set to return to the starting eleven for Argentina tomorrow, the Kop would feel he is rushed, which could prove fatal given how he has already played 767 minutes for the Merseyside Reds, complemented by another 105 for his country in the ongoing season.
To add to woes, after the ongoing international break, Arne Slot’s side are scheduled to play 7 games in 21 days where Alexis services are to come critical.
