Liverpool are enjoying a strong title run this season, with just one defeat in their first ten matches. However, the club’s main concern at the moment is securing contract renewals for three key players.

While Kostas Tsimikas and Andy Robertson have both performed solidly in the left-back position, the board believes a rotational option is essential. As a result, Liverpool are actively searching for a left-back, with Benfica’s Álvaro Carreras emerging as a prime candidate to fill the role.

It will be a massive dig at United if Liverpool were to SIgn Alvaro Carreras

According to reports from AS Sports, Liverpool have entered the race alongside several top European clubs to sign former Manchester United talent Álvaro Carreras from Benfica.

The 21-year-old, who came through Manchester United’s academy, never made a senior appearance for the Premier League side but has since flourished at Benfica, attracting interest from elite teams across Europe.

Following a successful loan spell at Benfica last season, the Portuguese club secured the permanent signing of Álvaro Carreras in the summer for a fee potentially rising to £7.5 million, including add-ons.

Carreras has been a standout performer for Benfica this season, contributing to their strong start, with two wins in their Champions League group stage and a third-place standing in Liga Portugal. His impressive displays have caught the attention of several top clubs. Recent reports suggest that Manchester United are considering activating their buy-back clause to re-sign their former academy player, while the two Spanish Giants are also reportedly interested.

Liverpool could view Álvaro Carreras as a potential long-term successor to 30-year-old Andy Robertson, who is approaching the latter stages of his career.

Meanwhile, Arne Slot’s side may also be in the market for a new forward soon, as Mohamed Salah is in the final year of his contract. Similarly, both Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are in the same situation, leaving their futures at Liverpool uncertain until they decide whether to renew their deals.
