The squad depth in Liverpool this season has been second to none. Arne Slot, their new head coach is managing to extract the most of them as well. By using several attacking options and mixing up the midfield, his formula so far has worked. Not only have they managed to keep a stellar defensive record, but the game management has also been top-notch. Amid all the competition, there is always a bunch who would fight for the starting position. Some players get along with the manager’s tactics while few have to wait for their opportunity patiently.

Japanese midfielder Wataru Endo has struggled for game time since the arrival of Arne Slot. While starting an EFL game and managing around five minutes in the Premier League, Endo is still waiting for a regular spot on the sidelines. Taking on the subject and the recent changes at camp, the 31-year-old told (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“A club like Liverpool needs the depth of the squad,” he said. “I have no idea what people are saying about me, but my plan is to stay here.”

Endo also addressed the comments from his coach and showed positivity in his talks. Talking about the opportunities and further season he added:

“It’s going to be a long season where you need a lot of players, so if you need a lot of players they also need, once in a while, some playing time,” said the Liverpool head coach earlier last month. “So we are aware of that and that’s also what we take into account when we make a line-up, but it’s not the only thing I take into account.”

Endo, who is currently on £50,000 per week contract, has always been a sporting figure in the Liverpool camp. While he brings competition behind the curtains to push his teammates, he has also proved his worth under Jurgen Klopp. He realises he is not the only one struggling to play and everyone works hard for their bread.
