Liverpool defender Trent Alexander Arnold has been subject to links with a move to Real Madrid, with Italian manager in charge of Los Blancos, Carlo Ancelotti, being the driving force behind interest for the England international. The former AC Milan manager has been said to be an admirer of the Reds academy graduate since his time at Everton, and he is set to bag on the opportunity to land his signatures owing to his shaky contract situation at Anfield Stadium.

The fact that the negotiations between the Merseyside Reds officials, TAA, and his representatives are progressing slowly gives Madrid more hope of landing the 26-year-old on a free transfer.

However, the priorities at Real Madrid could change if former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso goes on to take charge of Santiago Bernabéu. There is a viable possibility that the Bayer Leverkusen head coach takes over the reins at Madrid next summer, and according to a report by a reliable German journalist in Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Xabi wants to bring in Jeremie Frimpong for the right-back dilemma at Madrid.

Alonso was close to taking charge of Liverpool when Jurgen Klopp bid adieu to Anfield Stadium; however, he chose to stay at Bayer Leverkusen, and now, with a possible move to Madrid, he can give the Kop a major relief if he takes Jeremie Frimpong with him rather than Trent.

For now, these are external factors that the Merseyside Reds are counting on rather than resolving the problem internally and getting the contract situation with Trent sorted out on a priority.
