Liverpool have a dire need to sign a new midfielder at Anfield Stadium, as they are yet to replace Jordan Henderson and Fabinho at Kirkby. Jurgen Klopp did bring in Wataru Endo as a stop-gap signing to help the proceedings till a viable replacement is brought through the doors of the AXA training centre. However, while the Premier League heavyweights pondered on bringing multiple marquee midfielders, no move materialised, and Arne Slot has been forced to make do with a depleted midfield.
The chiefs at Liverpool did try to bring in Martin Zubimendi in the recently concluded summer transfer window, and while they moved all their eggs in the Spaniard’s baskets, the Reds were left with no incoming in the middle of the park when the 25-year-old rejected the Merseyside-based club and chose to stay with his current employers, Real Sociedad.
Now, just months from the saga that dominated the Reds summer, there is a possibility that Zubimendi could end up at Anfield Stadium. Arne Slot’s side is expected to try their luck to sign the 25-year-old Spanish international once against in the upcoming winter transfer window.
Liverpool could renew pursuit of Zubimendi in January
Journalist David Lynch recently acknowledged the fact that the player hasn’t signed a new deal with the La Liga giants yet and also insists that the Reds sources aren’t ruling out a move for the Euro 2024 winner.
Writing on his blog, Lynch stated:
“Liverpool sources are refusing to rule out going back in for Martin Zubimendi, and no sense is given that bridges between player and club have been completely burned.”
Zubimendi is one of those players who can single-handedly transform the technical ability of the Merseyside Reds from the middle of the park. It makes sense that Liverpool give it another shot at landing the midfielder, who reportedly has a £51m (€60m) release clause on his current contract at Sociedad.
