Liverpool are actively seeking to strengthen their squad as they prepare for a potential future without their key trio. Despite currently topping the table, they, along with Arsenal and Manchester City, are closely monitoring one of Europe’s rising defensive talents during the international break.
Reports from TBR suggest that the Premier League giants scouted Maxim De Cuyper, valued at around £17 million, last Thursday, signalling a potential move in the near future.
Maxim de Cuyper has proven himself as an attacking full-back, scoring five goals and providing 15 assists for Club Brugge during the 2023/24 season. Italy experienced his offensive prowess firsthand when Belgium mounted a comeback from 2-0 down at the Stadio Olimpico, a fightback ignited by De Cuyper’s curling strike, expertly placed into the corner from the edge of the penalty area.
How the Belgian can hold up in the Premier League
At just 23 years old, Maxim De Cuyper clearly possesses the technical skills that top clubs look for in a full-back. Although his agent has not disclosed the identities of interested parties, it seems there is a limited window for his time at Club Brugge, especially as Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City monitor him during UEFA Nations League matches.
Despite signing a new long-term contract in the summer, Club Brugge may find it challenging to retain him if significant offers come in. Italian publication Calciomercato reports that De Cuyper, who is also a target for AC Milan, will cost a minimum of £17 million.
Speaking to Calciomercato, De Cuyper’s Agent Axel Vergeylen spoke
“A player like Maxim attracts a lot of interest. Without a doubt, also in Italy,”
“For obvious reasons, I can’t go into the names of the interested clubs. But Serie A is certainly a big league.
“He has to go step by step. At the moment, that is at Club Brugge. And, at the right moment, he has to take the next step in his career,” Vergeylen adds. “The only goal is to reach as high as possible and play for the best possible club.”

While Andy Robertson and Greek international Kostas Tsimikas currently occupy the left-back position, Liverpool could be considering a future replacement for Robertson. Maxim de Cuyper emerges as the ideal candidate, given his ability to excel in all three positions on the left flank. However, Liverpool faces stiff competition from top clubs like AC Milan as they look to secure his signature, making the future uncertain for both the player and the club.
