Liverpool remain keen on Rodrygo as Salah’s replacement

Liverpool have not reached a contract agreement with Mohamed Salah so far with the Egyptian international’s contract expiring at the end of the season, just like Trent Alexander-Arnold’s and Virgil van Dijk’s. The club has yet to begin negotiations with any of the three players, who remain linked with transfers away from Liverpool as free agents.

Salah’s future has particularly come under the scanner in the past few months. He was wanted by clubs from the Saudi Pro League, who were willing to offer him a groundbreaking wage, far higher than what he is paid on Merseyside. However, as it occurred, the former Chelsea man remained at Liverpool, where he is proving his qualities yet again.

The 32-year-old, however, is towards the latter phases of his career and even if he were to renew, he would not be around forever. With that in mind, Liverpool need to ponder over signing his replacements and as per Liverpool Echo, they have decided to swoop for Real Madrid star Rodrygo Goes, who has won the Champions League twice in the last three years.

He has been linked with a transfer to Anfield in the past and even revealed rejecting a switch to Liverpool some years ago as he eventually chose Real Madrid. However, following Kylian Mbappe’s arrival from Paris Saint-Germain, the Brazilian’s position in the team has become precarious and the Reds are hoping to offer him an escape route to the Premier League.

Real Madrid recently renewed Rodrygo’s contract until June 2028 even when Mbappe’s arrival seemed imminent, while the forward has even started a majority of their games this season with Ancelotti reverting to a three-man offence. He also refuted rumours of his departure from Spain, so it remains to be seen if he will be enticed by a move to Anfield.
