Liverpool have endured a difficult summer transfer window as the Reds have barely made a signing since Arne Slot took charge of Anfield Stadium, and while the Dutch head coach looks to entail his presence in the dressing room, the Merseyside Reds are looking to follow the trend of bringing in highly acclaimed young players who have the potential to make it big in the professional game, and they brought in highly regarded Chelsea starlet Rio Ngumoha to L4 in the last summer.
Reds snapped up Ngumoha from Chelsea
The highly rated 16-year-old wide forward swapped West London for Merseyside despite Chelsea’s best attempts to keep hold of the winger. He turns up to training with the Under-21s at AXA Training Centre while featuring for the U18s in the league and for the U19s in the UEFA Youth League.
However, it was not only Chelsea that the Reds had to beat; Premier League heavyweights Manchester United were also looking to snap his signatures, and the nature of the transfer meant that it attracted fair interest from the media. And in the aftermath of the transfer, the Blues have rejected requests from Liverpool and Manchester United for their scouts to be among the audience in youth games at Cobham Training Centre in the ongoing campaign, per The Athletic.
While the Chelsea sources were quizzed about the probable situation, they claimed that Liverpool had rejected scouting access to games at the AXA Training Centre, while when cross-questioned about the same to the Reds, they responded, “No requests have been rejected so far this season.”

For Liverpool, this is just another trick by Chelsea to keep the Reds off highly acclaimed talents. Though they should not come down to the Blues levels and rather be the class club that the badge commands for. And a potential Ngumoha success should make more noise among the talents at Cobham, as it could encourage other young, high-potential starlets to consider the Reds academy as a viable option for their development.
