Liverpool have been looking to compound on defensive options going into the 2025 transfer intervals as Arne Slot looks to compound on his options at the heart of the defence. The Reds are light in the position after having failed to replace Joel Matip, who left the Merseysiders in the recently concluded summer transfer window.

While the chiefs at AXA Training Centre chose not to replace Matip, the duo of Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez have had their availability problems, leaving the Dutch head coach to scratch his head.

While Virgil van Dijk and Konate are strong first choice options to have, the former has also been linked with an exit as his contract at Anfield Stadium comes due in less than twelve months. As the talks with the former Southampton defender and his representatives go on, the club is already planning the possibility of losing the 33-year-old.

Liverpool endured a difficult summer transfer window, and they are looking to capitalise on the 2025 transfer intervals as they look to hand the new hard coach new recruits after him inheriting the majority of Jurgen Klopp’s squad at L4. And the Reds are looking at possibilities to bring Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, who was subject to extensive links with Newcastle United in the summer window.

While the move to St. James Park did not come around, the England international has now been linked with a move to Liverpool, with the player preferring a move to Anfield Stadium, per TEAMtalk. However, his current employers are believed to be asking £80 million or more for his services, which could prove to be a significant hurdle for Liverpool.
