Mohamed Salah has taken the headlines off late as his contract at Liverpool remains among speculation, with the Egyptian international’s current deal at Anfield Stadium ending in less than twelve months, and there have been rumours that he may call quits to his time at L4 with the end of the ongoing campaign.
With his contract running out, Saudi Pro League clubs have made their interest known as they look to make him the highest paid player in the Middle East, more than Cristiano Ronaldo, and make him the face of the league. Alongside the Saudi Arabian clubs, French giants Paris Saint-Germain have also made their interest known if the wide forward wishes to remain in Europe.
Carragher backs Salah to sign new Liverpool deal
Despite links suggesting a probable move away from L4, Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher is of the opinion that the former Chelsea wide forward is destined to continue at Anfield Stadium.
The 32-year-old has continued to play a pivotal role under new head coach Arne Slot, continuing his Midas touch in front of goal after having netted seven goals and recorded six assists in 11 league appearances in the ongoing campaign.
The Egypt international joined Liverpool back in 2017 from AS Roma and cemented his legacy as one of the best in the current era in the English top tier, and he will have eyes on getting past legendary numbers in the Premier League; hence, despite the lingering future of the 32-year-old, Carragher believes that Salah will remain at the club.
“He’ll have an eye on Thierry Henry (175) and Frank Lampard (177) by the end of this season, I would imagine, and I think stats like this are one of the biggest reasons why Mo Salah will sign a new contract at Liverpool,” Carragher told Sky Sports (via. BBC Match of the Day).
“Of course, they’ll be talking about money and length of contract, but I think these are the things that really get the juices flowing for Mo Salah. He breaks all the records at Liverpool, and getting as far as he can up those lists, I think that’s a big part of his focus as a player.”
Salah has 162 goals in the English top tier at the moment, and it is difficult to catch Titi in the ongoing season, so he could decide on extending his stay and pounce on the opportunity to catch the French forward.
