Dominik Szoboszlai revealed he is happy to do the dirty job for Liverpool even if it compromises his goal tally. The 23-year-old has played regularly for the Reds since the start of this season under new head coach Arne Slot.

Liverpool have won 10 out of their first 11 games under the new head coach despite not reaching their best. The Hungary captain has played in a more attacking position, ahead of Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch.

Liverpool have enjoyed a strong balance under the new tactics, controlling the offensive and defensive phases of the game well. However, they are still a work in progress and individual form will play a crucial role in fulfilling collective goals.

Speaking before the Champions League game against RB Leipzig (via BBC), Szoboszlai highlighted his satisfaction to work hard for Liverpool. He said:

“It can be always better so no. I can play even better. I can score more goals and do more assists. But I am doing a dirty job for the team and that is most important for me. We are top of league and if I don’t score goals that is more important.”

Liverpool signed the Hungary captain from Leipzig during the summer of 2023 under the leadership of legendary manager Jurgen Klopp. Szobsozlai started his career at Anfield strongly but faded away after a series of unwanted injuries that hampered his performances.

The 23-year-old’s desire to work hard for his team and cover big distances plays an important role in the midfield. Nevertheless, Szoboszlai needs to add more goals and assists to his game and justify the incredible technical ability he possesses.

Szoboszlai’s direct competition Harvey Elliott missed the majority of the current season’s start due to a fractured foot. As Elliott gets close to his return from injury, Szoboszlai has to improve his consistency or risk getting usurped soon.
