Liverpool have been subject to links with a move for defender in the upcoming transfer intervals in 2025 owing to their shortfalls in the position as Arne Slot looks to add quality and depth in the heart of defence. The Reds have been looking outward to bring in a new centre-back for a while, especially after failing to replace Joel Matip, who left Anfield Stadium in the recently concluded summer transfer window.

And the Merseysiders defensive fragilities don’t end here, as the availability concerns of Quansah and Joe Gomez add further sense of uncertainty to their defensive lineup.

To aid their problems, Arne Slot had been looking to reinforce his defensive options, with RB Leipzig defensive sensation Castello Lukeba a potential option for the upcoming window. The Frenchman has been highly impressing for the Bundesliga giants, which cultivated links to Liverpool.

However, while the Reds pursue a move for the defender, Premier League heavyweights Manchester City have also expressed interest in landing the defender, per Fichajes, as they feel the French defender could be ideal for the Cityzens, with Pep Guardiola said to be quite impressed with the player and is leading the charge to sign him in the summer of 2025.

RB Leipzig would be looking for a fee around €60-70 million for the 21-year-old, a fee that City wouldn’t think twice before paying. However, if Liverpool are going to compete with them for his signatures, they will have to think short, medium, and long term before spending such hefty fees on Lukeba.
