Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been subject to links with a move away from Anfield Stadium as his contract at L4 comes due at the end of the ongoing campaign, and it has raised some massive cause of doubts among the fans who ponder if they are set to lose their skipper.

The Dutchman has been an integral part of the Merseysiders since his move from Southampton, establishing himself as a key cog in the Premier League under Jurgen Klopp and continuing his reputation under Arne Slot.

The 33-year-old showed his class once again in the top-of-the table clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium earlier today, where he not only scored a goal but also was an absolute beast in containing Kai Havertz. It would be unfair to say Van Dijk dominated the German international; however, he did enough to keep him quite and covered.

His importance for the Reds cannot be overstated, and in the post-game interview, Liverpool’s highly coveted skipper was asked about his contract situation at Anfield Stadium, where he insisted upon being calm about it and enjoying his game while suggesting that he will focus on it going into the final stint of the ongoing campaign.

Speaking to Sky Sports on his contract situation, Van Dijk said (via. BBC),

“I’m very calm. Let’s see what happens towards the end of the season. I’m enjoying my football, physically and mentally. Keep enjoying the game because it’s a beautiful game that we play and I play.”

While this could mean both ways, it does ensure the Kop that their skipper is focused on the season and is not too fazed by all the talks going around his contract.
