The defensive facilities at Anfield Stadium have forced Arne Slot’s hand into looking outward to recruit a central defender on his roster as he stays thin in options at the heart of defence. Liverpool endured a difficult summer transfer window where they struggled to put pieces together for their targets, and in doing so, the Merseysiders failed to replace Joel Matip, who left L4 in the off season.

The central defensive options at Merseyside Reds get trickier with availability problems for Quansah and Gomez. Moreover, the contract concerns for Virgil van Dijk add more instability to their defensive options.

And Liverpool have been linked with a move for multiple defenders who can add depth and quality at the back, and they have been reportedly monitoring 19-year-old CB prodigy Nathan Zeze,  by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football.

Liverpool target young defender Zeze

£17m price tag could tempt Liverpool to sign Zeze

Zeze is a player with a physical profile who has the build to succeed in the Premier League and has been taking strides with his performances for Ligue 1 side Nantes, and Liverpool could make a move for him as early as the winter transfer window.

That being said, the Reds aren’t the only club interested in his signatures, with the likes of Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Arsenal also chasing the teenager. However, all the aforementioned sides wouldn’t have to fork out massive fees to land his signatures, as Nantes are willing to let go of the defender for a cheap £17 million fee, something that none of the Premier League clubs would mind given the quality that Zeze possesses.
