Liverpool came out with a draw against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium earlier today in what was a topsy-turvy top-of-the-table clash, and the Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk addresses the game in his post-match interview.
It was a game of comebacks for the Reds as the Gunners blew the first punch in what was a finely taken goal from Bukayo Saka. Ben White, who was playing as a centre-back to cover for William Saliba’s absence, lobbed a ball over where the England international cut Robertson on his preferred left foot and banged it in the near post to give the hosts a lead. Liverpool equalised soon with Virgil van Dijk scoring a header from a finely taken corner, which bounced into Arsenal’s area of uncertainty from a Luis Diaz flick, which VVD capitalised on.
Arsenal’s second was a thing about set piece as well when Mikel Merino headed one into Liverpool’s net with a zipped free-kick from Declan Rice.
Liverpool messiah Mohamed Salah equalised for the visitors late in the second half to bring the game to level again, and that is where it stayed till Taylor blew his full-time whistle.
Van Dijk: A point at Arsenal is a positive result
And Virgil van Dijk, speaking in his post-match interview, acknowledged how it was important to not lose first, which is where the draw result comes in positive for Liverpool. The Dutch international speaking to MOTD (via. BBC) said:
“It sounds very cliche but it’s better than losing. There were opportunities for us to try and win the game. The first half was difficult. We came out well in the second half and pushed for the equaliser. We move on.”
