Liverpool had another exemplary performance last time out as they came from behind to beat Brighton.

However, one big concern for them in the game was the injury sustained by Ibrahima Konaté, who was thus taken off at halftime. Thankfully, Arne Slot and Co won’t have to wait long for Konaté to return.

As confirmed by Liverpool.com, Ibrahima Konaté will be cleared to play against Bayer Leverkusen in the midweek during the UEFA Champions League.

The Frenchman came off at half-time against Brighton with a blow to one of his arm. The signs were worrying at the time as the 25-year-old walked off with a sling, though he clarified later with an Instagram post that he had suffered no break and would therefore be in the mix for the game against Leverkusen.

The update will come as a huge relief for Liverpool head coach Arne Slot, given Konaté has been a key part of what has been a rock-solid defence. Liverpool have conceded the least goals in the league, though their first-choice goalkeeper is out injured and their options in midfield are relatively limited.

Konaté has made 14 club appearances this season, even providing two goals and an assist.

Konaté a crucial component

If the midweek clash were not a heavyweight affair, Slot might have considered taking no risks and leaving Konaté on the bench and favour Joe Gomez, but Bayer Leverkusen will force his hand, no pun intended.

In the long run, Konaté not being injured is unquestionably a massive boost for Liverpool, who are already nursing off an injury to Alisson.

Interestingly, Gomez also did a decent job at the back after coming on and will fill Slot with more confidence in his backline, which may yet help Liverpool go all the way this term.
