Liverpool’s decision to appoint Dutch manager Arne Slot, following Jurgen Klopp’s departure, is proving highly successful. The Reds are thriving across all competitions, having suffered just one loss so far—a remarkable start under Slot’s leadership.

Slot, who orchestrated a thrilling comeback against Brighton over the weekend, has driven Liverpool to the top of the league after ten games, keeping them ahead of heavyweights Manchester City and pretenders Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim will take charge at Manchester United after the club dismissed Erik ten Hag due to a poor start to the season. Football pundit Jamie Carragher has shed light on why Liverpool opted for Slot over Amorim.

Amorim’s achievements are undeniable. At just 39 and in only his third senior managerial role, the Portuguese coach led Sporting Lisbon to two league titles after joining from Braga in 2020. His impact was monumental—prior to his appointment, Sporting had endured a 19-year title drought.

Arne Slot is the Ideal Successor at Liverpool

Liverpool Legend Jamie Carragher has weighed in on Liverpool’s decision to choose Arne Slot over Ruben Amorim. Now facing the biggest test of his career at Manchester United, Amorim has already been cautioned about the potential risks of too much managerial freedom at the Red Devils.

Writing in his column in the Telegraph, Carragher revealed:

“My suspicion is that one of the reasons Liverpool favoured Slot over Amorim last summer is because the Dutchman prefers the more traditional four at the back, so the transition was easier for the squad he inherited.

“Under Jurgen Klopp, the style of the first team was mirrored down to academy level to ensure those who made the step up were familiar with the playing patterns.”

Liverpool are evidently pleased with their choice, as Slot’s philosophy and playing style align well with the approach Klopp established at Anfield. The results, along with standout performances from players like Mohamed Salah and Ryan Gravenberch—arguably the team’s top performers this season—reinforce that Slot is indeed the ideal manager for the Reds.

All eyes will be on how Amorim fares at Manchester United, particularly if he continues with his trademark back-three formation at Old Trafford. Set to begin his tenure on 11th November, the Portuguese manager inherits a team languishing in the bottom half of the table, enduring their worst-ever start to a Premier League season—leaving the 39-year-old with a daunting task ahead.
