Liverpool, currently top of the Premier League table, could not have asked for a better beginning to life under new head coach Arne Slot.
One of their issues, however, remains the relative lack of options in the central midfield.
Ahead of the January transfer window, the Reds continue scouting for long-term midfield solutions, and one of them has emerged in LaLiga.
Liverpool monitoring Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado
As reported by Caught Offside, Liverpool are keen on Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado and may face challenge from Man United for his signature.
As per the report, the Reds deem Casado to already have all the ingredients needed to become a starter under Arne Slot.
The 21-year-old Spain U21 international is a graduate of La Masia and has become a regular this season under Hansi Flick, having made 13 appearances for the Blaugrana in which he has also provided five assists.
Valued by Transfermarkt at €15 million, Casado has in place at Barça a €420k-per-year contract set to run until June 2028.
Another good spot
A spot in the midfield pivot is there for the taking in Arne Slot’s Liverpool setup. A need for depth in that position means someone like Casado, with his footballing background, would fit right in and in little to no time.
Of course, Barcelona would want much more for the Spaniard than Transfermarkt’s valuation, but few of their players—if there are any—can consider themselves untouchable as far as their their departure from Camp Nou on the back of a substantial transfer fee is concerned.
Liverpool have started under Slot in promising fashion. Casado is a well-rounded defensive midfield operator. If he can be persuaded, the Reds should move for him in the coming transfer windows.
