Liverpool are enjoying life under their new head coach, Arne Slot, and currently top the Premier League table after ten games into the season.
The Reds are also the most defensively sound unit in the league, having conceded just six goals thus far, And apparently they are ready to strengthen themselves while they are ahead.
Liverpool ready to battle Real Madrid for Castello Lukeba
As reported by Fichajes, Liverpool are ready to challenge Real Madrid for the signature of RB Leipzig centre-back Castello Lukeba.
The young France international joined the German Bundesliga side from Lyon only last summer, but his performances are already making the European big-hitters consider activating the €90m release clause in his contract, which fetches him €5 million per year and is set to run until June 2029.
Lukeba has made 12 appearances for Leipzig this season across all competitions.
Is this the end of Virgil van Dijk?
An ageing Virgil van Dijk is in the last year of his contract at Liverpool, and naturally speculation surrounds him and his future.
Even if the Dutchman were to stay at the club beyond this season, though, Liverpool would be wise to get a long-term replacement or two in before bidding the veteran centre-back farewell.

Liverpool are arguably in need of a young centre-back more than Real Madrid, but it is unlikely they’ll commit €90 million for Lukeba, especially if they are to reinforce other areas of the pitch as well.
