Alan Shearer believes Mo Salah to be in his last season with Liverpool

Mohamed Salah is, undoubtedly, one of the greatest Liverpool players of all time.

Even as he accelerates into his thirties, the Egypt international continues accelerating down the wing to catapult the Reds to newer heights.

According to one Premier League legend, however, Salah will not be at Liverpool next season.

Alan Shearer believes Mo Salah to be in his last season with Liverpool

In a recent appearance on The Rest is Football, Premier League record goal-scorer Alan Shearer stated that he believed Mo Salah would leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

“There’s a big chance it could be his last season.

“I think obviously with the contract situation, he’s not signed yet. There were big rumours about him moving abroad last season, or in the summer, or in the transfer window, to Saudi.

“Yeah, it wouldn’t it wouldn’t surprise me at all [if Salah left Liverpool].”

Shearer’s take on Salah’s situation, as quoted by Empire of the Kop.

Speculation regarding Salah’s future at Liverpool has been ripe with intrigue since last season, when the club rejected a £150m Saudi Pro League offer for the Egypt international. As things stand, Salah will be a free agent next summer.

No concrete update is available regarding Salah’s future at Merseyside at the moment, yet the 32-year-old has been in sensational form on the pitch with nine goals and seven appearances in 15 appearances across all competitions.

Salah likely to leave

The cultural significance of the prospect of an Arab superstar plying his trade in Saudi Arabia cannot be downplayed. Salah’s move to the Saudi Pro League is simply a matter of “when” and not “if”.

Of course, given the way he is playing right now, there is no reason to suggest why Liverpool shouldn’t offer him another short-term deal.

That said, as a club you always want to be proactive in moving ageing players on, especially when they’re on high wages.
