Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate wants the fans to push the club towards success if they continue creating a “crazy” atmosphere. The Reds beat Bayer Leverkusen 4-0 at Anfield in the Champions League game on Tuesday to continue their impressive form.
Liverpool have won 14 out of 16 games in all competitions under the leadership of new head coach Arne Slot. They have won all of their first four Champions League game to sit at the top of the competition’s table.
Liverpool earned the toughest of fixtures among their rival clubs, playing numerous last season’s league winners in their respective countries. The Reds will face Girona, LOSC Lille, last season’s Champions League winners Real Madrid and the Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven.
The Merseyside giants have already defeated AC Milan, RB Leipzig and Bologna in their previous Champions League games this season. Liverpool leads the Premier League table, with only one loss and one draw to their name so far this season.
Slot accepted the squad he inherited from Jurgen Klopp, adding only Federico Chiesa and his unique tactical style of play. The Dutchman’s emphasis on controlling the game and regulating the “risk vs reward” has provided more tools to the team.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Konate highlighted the key role that the Liverpool fans have to continue playing for the club this season. He said:
“The atmosphere was crazy today and I hope the fans will keep going like that until the end of the season. It’s just the start. We just have to keep going and keep working, nothing is done now. We have so many games until the end of the season. I hope everyone will stay fit and healthy. It’s the last game before the international break and we just hope for three points. Honestly, we need Anfield. Everyone, when they play against Liverpool – it’s one of the best clubs in the world – [so] especially when they come here, they just want to win because if you win against Liverpool, it’s a big story for them.”
Liverpool and Leverkusen struggled to impose their dominance in the first half of the game on Tuesday. Slot and Liverpool’s favourite, Xabi Alonso, engaged in a tactical battle, marked by intensity and strategic implementation from both sides.
However, the Kopites made their presence known to the visiting side in the second half and changed the game’s trajectory. Once Liverpool scored their first goal through Luis Diaz, the songs and noise at Anfield erupted and rattled the opposition.

The Reds score another goal quickly, using the momentum to impose their dominance within the game. Liverpool need to maintain their consistency until the end of the season, avoiding their last season’s mishaps. Keeping the injury crisis at bay is another important factor that the fans hope Slot’s style of play will deliver.
