Real Madrid ready to sweeten Trent offer for Liverpool; player swap on the cards

Arne Slot hails Jurgen Klopp impact as Liverpool end Real Madrid hoodoo.

Real Madrid’s first quarter of this season hasn’t exactly gone to plan, it’s safe to say. A recent string of emphatically poor results has already put Los Blancos on crisis alert.

Things have not been going too well on the individual front either. Kylian Mbappé is experiencing teething issues in his first year in Madrid, the whole club has been in uproar over Vinícius Júnior not winning the Ballon d’Or, Aurélien Tchouaméni has become an outcast out of seemingly nowhere, and a season-ending injury to an ageing Dani Carvajal has made Galácticos particularly weak on the right side of their defence.

However, they may be about to try solving two of their issues in one go.

Real Madrid could use Aurélien Tchouaméni to tempt Liverpool for Trent Alexander-Arnold

Real Madrid could use Aurélien Tchouaméni to tempt Liverpool for Trent Alexander-Arnold

According to a Liverpool Echo report, Real Madrid may try to offer Liverpool Aurélien Tchouaméni in exchange for Trent Alexander-Arnold during the upcoming January transfer window.

The 24-year-old France international was revealed as a surprise outcast at the Santiago Bernabéu not too long ago, with the club ready to listen to offers for him in January and Liverpool having been keen on getting him to boost their midfield.

On the other hand, Trent Alexander-Arnold is reluctant to pen a new deal to remain at Anfield amidst interest from Real Madrid, who are going to have to dip into the market in January to find a long-term replacement for the injured Dani Carvajal.

Liverpool may thus be offered Tchouaméni, €12.5m-per-year contract runs for three more seasons, as part of a cut-price agreement if they choose to let Alexander-Arnold go in January. The English right-back’s £180k-per-week contract expires in the summer.

This could work

If there’s one thing Liverpool have re-asserted about themselves this season with Jürgen Klopp’s succession is that they can plan really, really well.

So if Alexander-Arnold really wants a move away, it’d be wise on the club’s part to let him leave in January, get Tchouaméni on board, and sign another right-back—at least a short-term solution if they find no viable long-term alternative.
