Liverpool have made a blistering start to the season, topping both the Premier League and UEFA Champions League tables. Arne Slot has set a new record for the best start by a new Premier League manager, winning 15 of his first 17 games at the helm. Though it’s early in the campaign, optimism is high among Liverpool supporters, with the Reds still competing on four fronts. Steve Nicol, initially uncertain, now believes Liverpool are very much in the race for the Premier League title.
At the start of the season, most fans and pundits, including Steve Nicol speaking on ESPN FC, predicted Manchester City or Arsenal to claim the Premier League title, with Nicol backing Arsenal for first and Liverpool to finish third.
However, following Liverpool’s electrifying start to the new campaign, Nicol has now reversed his stance, believing the Reds are all set to win the title. He now predicts Manchester City, Arsenal, and Chelsea to round out the top four.
Steve Nicol tips Liverpool to win the Premier League this season
The retired Scotland international turned Pundit is confident Liverpool will win the Premier League this season, citing their strong start and settled squad as key factors. He highlights that Liverpool currently hold a nine-point lead over Arsenal and a five-point lead over Manchester City, with both rivals struggling for consistency. Nicol believes that while the other two teams are “stumbling along,” Liverpool’s form is steady, and they know exactly what they are getting from their side. He argues that if Arsenal were to lose again and Liverpool win, the gap could widen to 12 points, making it increasingly difficult for their rivals to catch up. Nicol suggests that Liverpool’s early advantage gives them a significant edge in the title race.
The Pundit explained on ESPN FC,
“I would say very confident (on Liverpool winning the league),”
“Part of the reason has to do with both Arsenal and Man City. They’ve got a nine-point lead over Arsenal and a five-point lead over City.”
“The other two are just stumbling along and the longer they stumble, the harder it’s going to be. If Arsenal lose this weekend and Liverpool win, they are going to be 12 points behind.“Do you really think you can give this Liverpool side four games of a start and you still have to get through the whole campaign winning every game? That’s why I’ve gone for them.”
