Liverpool star ‘unwilling’ to get involved as key trio run down contract

Alexis Mac Allister has hope that Liverpool can secure new deals for Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. The pivotal trio’s contracts expire at the end of the current season, sparking concerns among fans and players alike.

Liverpool are at the top of the Premier League and the Champions League table with 18 victories from 20 games in all competitions. However, the upper management have rightfully faced serious scrutiny for letting the contracts of their key players end without early renegotiation.

The three players can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club from January which is within a month away. The Reds cannot afford to lose their key players for free, particularly when they are part of the spine that holds the squad together.

Speaking to ESPN Argentina, Mac Allister highlighted his desire to play with Salah, Van Dijk and Trent at Liverpool for more years. He said:

“Obviously we want to share a lot of years with him, but that’s a personal decision. The club has to make a decision and we can’t get involved. Hopefully they can come to an agreement because we want him and Virgil and Trent to continue with us. Hopefully that will be the case.”

Salah has remained Liverpool’s most consistent contributor, with 13 goals and 11 assists from 20 games in all competitions. The 32-year-old’s remarkable consistency underlines his value, as he delivers game-changing moments regularly without missing many games.

Meanwhile, Liverpool captain Van Dijk has helped the club concede only 12 goals in all competitions. The Dutchman has featured in 18 matches this season, contributing two goals and an assist while maintaining his defensive standards. Van Dijk’s leadership and ability to control games from the back make him irreplaceable for Liverpool and Arne Slot.

Under head coach Slot, Alexander-Arnold has enjoyed significant defensive improvement while maintaining his playmaking capabilities. Slot’s coaching has enhanced Alexander-Arnold’s defensive skills, making him a more well-rounded player as a right-back.
