Liverpool handed boost as key star is close to signing new contract

Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah is close to signing a two-year contract with the club to end speculations surrounding his future. The announcement should also act as a boost for fans and his peers who wanted this to happen much earlier.
Salah has played a pivotal role for Liverpool this season in their extraordinary form with 18 wins from 21 games. The Reds have scored 49 goals from those 21 games in all competitions with Salah enjoying a prolific season again.
The 32-year-old faced some criticism for his sudden dip in form last season which coincided with poor team’s form collectively. Furthermore, the Egyptian has always received praise for his availability but last season he suffered a rare long injury layoff.

However, the 32-year-old proved his impressive class once again this season with continuous availability and a high level of performance. Salah has scored 15 goals and provided 12 assists already from those 21 games in all competitions during this season.
According to the Mirror, Liverpool and Salah have reached a mutually agreeable middle ground in their intense and long negotiation. Salah voiced his concern about the contract situation publicly, inviting criticism from the likes of former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher. The Egpyt captain is earning £350,000 gross per week under his current contract which will remain the same under the two-year deal.
However, Carragher has also changed his stance after Salah’s incredible performance against Newcastle United in the 3-3 draw on Wednesday. Salah has displayed a clear capacity to maintain his peak despite the ageing factor that has regressed his former teammates.
While the likes of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino regressed as they crossed their 30s, Salah has maintained his longevity. A two-year contract is justified for both the club and the legendary player as it safeguards Liverpool financially while Salah continues to thrive.
