Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold delivers a beautiful eulogy to the “art of playmaking”
Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered a beautiful analysis of the “art of accurate passing” to explain why he loves playmaking. Alexander-Arnold has established himself as one of the best playmakers in the world, if not the best of this generation.
The 26-year-old established himself as a regular first-team player at a very young age under the legendary manager Jurgen Klopp. Klopp used Alexander-Arnold at the right-back position where he thrived playing opposite another world-class fullback, the Scottish captain Andy Robertson.
Both Liverpool players played a pivotal role as attack-minded fullbacks, contributing with many critical assists during the highly successful era. Liverpool won every major trophy under Klopp despite facing countless title adversaries who enjoyed financial supremacy over the Merseyside club.

Nevertheless, the rise of Alexander-Arnold from the Liverpool academy played a critical role and now he is the club’s vice-captain. The England international has acquired a lot of experience which has significantly changed his style of play over the years.
Despite the constant criticism about his defensive contributions, Trent has improved massively this season under Arne Slot, shutting down naysayers. Throughout this time, the 26-year-old has maintained his status as the best playmaker in the team and a reliable game-changer.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Alexander-Arnold highlighted the names who inspired him to learn the art of playmaking and thrive at Liverpool. He said:
“I was fortunate enough to grow up in an era where the passers of the ball were incredible, so I was able to grow up watching [Steven] Gerrard, [Xabi] Alonso, [David] Beckham, [Andrea] Pirlo, the Spanish legends as well within that. I was very, very fortunate to grow up witnessing that. So I think from a young age I just always admired it; I thought it was a real art and a skill, and an artistry to it. Everything that goes into it – the weight of pass, the technique that you use, the speed of your pass.”
The 26-year-old further delivered a beautiful eulogy on the art of passing, explaining his love towards the extremely rare skill. He said:
“Every pass should be delivered as a message without having to talk. I think the person who receives the ball should know just from how the ball is played to you what the situation is for you – whether you can turn, whether you have to play it back, whether it’s in space. They should understand what your thinking was through the pass. You understand your players, what they like and what they don’t like and what gives them the best chance to score or put them in a position where they can attack the defender.”
