Liverpool star refuses to be drawn into ‘conversations’, all eyes on Leicester
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk demands that they focus on the next game instead of talking about a quadruple in May. The Reds registered their 21st victory from 25 games in all competition against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, securing three points.
Liverpool are at the top of the Premier League and the Champions League table but have no room for complacency. The complacent attitude haunted them last season when they suffered a significant drop in collective form at the latter stages.
The Reds have enjoyed playing under new head coach Arne Slot with a subtle tweak in their style of play. Liverpool are more balanced in their new tactical approach with an emphasis on dominating all the phases of the game.

Under the leadership of Van Dijk, they have secured many clean sheets and remain the toughest team to score against. However, recent injuries to in-form Ibrahima Konate and right-back option Conor Bradley and an inconsistent form of the two left-backs have caused them a lot of concerns.
Meanwhile, the attack remains vigilant and prolific under the guidance of legendary forward Mohamed Salah. Every attacking player has contributed significantly while new signing Federico Chiesa continues his journey back to full fitness.
Speaking to the reporters (via Liverpoolfc.com), Van Dijk demanded to focus on the next game instead of dwelling on what Liverpool could achieve in May. He said:
“I think I’ve given answers already many times: we don’t think [about] what’s out there in May. We want to be up there in May but we have seen how difficult that is, other teams couldn’t do it apart from obviously [Manchester] City that did it. We focus about what’s next ahead of us, that’s the only thing. I’m not getting dragged into any conversations about potentially winning a trophy, or two or three or four.”
Some Liverpool players made big statements last season which came back to bite them after their massive drop in form. The Premier League and every other competition where Liverpool are operating are ruthless with every club ready to exploit vulnerability.

The Reds must stay focused and maintain their guard, as a few results could completely change the season’s momentum. However, Liverpool have a head coach aware of this issue and senior players who have won trophies and have the experience to maintain the squad’s focus.
