Liverpool, the best team in Europe, began the year on a difficult note after drawing 2-2 with bitter rivals Manchester United at home. This result is particularly disappointing for the Reds, as United now sit in the bottom half of the table in 13th position. With the need for additional attacking depth, Liverpool are reportedly eyeing Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane. The Reds are closely monitoring his contract situation, with uncertainty surrounding his future at the Bundesliga club.

During the last transfer window, Liverpool had a relatively quiet summer, with their only addition being the out-of-favour Federico Chiesa. Their financially cautious approach has left them with reserves to pursue a move for Leroy Sane, despite facing competition from other Premier League clubs. As the current transfer window progresses, Liverpool are set to make more significant signings, particularly following the disappointing outcome of Chiesa’s arrival.

Respected sources claim Liverpool reportedly monitoring Sane

Leroy Sane, who impressed scouts during his time at Schalke with 21 goal contributions in just 57 games, joined Manchester City before moving to Bayern Munich, where he has played 194 matches and contributed to 104 goals. According to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool are keen on signing Sane in the January transfer window and are closely monitoring his situation at Bayern Munich.

The 28-year-old has entered the final six months of his £330,000-per-week contract and can negotiate a pre-contract with clubs outside Germany for the 2025/26 season.

Liverpool are eager to bring Leroy Sane back to England this month, especially as talks over a new deal under Vincent Kompany at Bayern Munich have yet to progress. Manchester City, Manchester United, and Chelsea are also believed to be vying for his signature.

However, Sane may be drawn to Liverpool’s impressive form in both the Premier League and the Champions League this season. With Arne Slot’s side well-positioned to complete a historic quadruple, including a spot in the League Cup semi-finals against a struggling Tottenham Hotspur, the Reds’ success could be the decisive factor in securing his move.

Having registered a crazy 82 goals and assists in just 135 games under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, Sane has proven he can excel at Premier League level. This makes him an ideal target for Liverpool as they aim to strengthen their squad and build a potential dynasty under Dutch manager Arne Slot.
