“Liverpool should take £20m…” – Pundit asks Reds to sell defender after his performance vs United

Liverpool are in advanced talks for Barcelona target Jeremie Frimpong.

Liverpool vice captain Trent Alexander-Arnold has been subject to links with a move away from L4, with his current deal at Anfield Stadium coming to a conclusion at the end of the ongoing campaign. And given the fact that he will be available on a free transfer, Spanish giants Real Madrid are looking to land his signature as they eye a revamp in the fullback positions.

Los Blancos head coach Carlo Ancelotti has been the driving force behind Madrid’s pursuit of Trent as they look to bring in a replacement for Dani Carvajal after the Spaniard’s season-ending injury. That being said, this would mark their moving on from’ the veteran Spanish guard to a young profile, and that is where Trent comes into the picture.

And while the Reds are in the midst of a Premier League title race, it would appear critical for Arne Slot’s push for the silverware to keep hold of the 26-year-old.

Keys wants Liverpool to sell Trent this winter

Is Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold a future legend or another Steve McManaman?
Is Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold done at L4?

However, BeIN Sports pundit Richard Keys has asked the Merseysiders to consider selling the fullback, terming him as ‘bang ordinary.’ This comes after the England international’s defensive frailties were exposed in the Reds 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Anfield Stadium.

Writing on his blog (as related by The Mirror), Keys noted:

“As for TAA. There’s not a lot more to say. His performance proved that Liverpool should take Madrid’s £20m and settle the on-off transfer saga surrounding him. Clearly he’s leaving, so bring the issue to a head.

“Never mind all the sentimental, misguided nonsense being spouted by Liverpool pundits who should know better—get the deal done. Believe me—Liverpool’s season is not going to hinge on whether a bang ordinary ‘defender’ stays or goes. I’m not saying he isn’t a good player—I just think his skill set is better suited to Madrid. Defending is not his strength. And the debate is a distraction.”

Keys’ comments would definitely divide the Reds supporters, given how Trent is highly regarded at Anfield Stadium, and while he has defensive lapses every now and then, his attacking contributions and playmaking ability are rare to replicate.

For his future at L4, it remains to be seen whether the chiefs at Kirkby will take Keys’ advice to part ways with their vice captain in the midst of the season or hold firm in their attempts to try to retain his signatures.
