Liverpool, currently performing beyond expectations and sitting at the top, have only lost twice this season. While the team is in top form and playing without major setbacks, Darwin Núñez’s difficulties in front of goal have sparked fresh speculation about his long-term future at Anfield. Despite Arne Slot’s side scoring four against Accrington Stanley, Núñez’s individual performances have raised concerns. With Núñez’s future uncertain, Liverpool have reportedly turned their attention to securing a new attacking option

Liverpool’s attacking depth under Slot highlights Núñez’s inconsistency, which is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. With only four goals and three assists in 24 appearances, his output falls short for a striker expected to lead the line. The Uruguayan is not performing at the desired level for Liverpool, and with his future uncertain, the club is reportedly eyeing a new attacking option.

Stefanos Tzimas, the perfect fit for Liverpool

As reported exclusively by Anfield Watch, discussions have taken place with representatives of Stefanos Tzimas, a highly-rated 19-year-old forward currently playing in Bundesliga 2.

Tzimas made a name for himself by becoming PAOK’s youngest-ever goalscorer at just 17 in a Super League Greece match in March 2023. Now on loan at FC Nürnberg, the Greek striker has scored eight goals and provided two assists this season. Standing at 6 ft 1 in, Tzimas combines physicality with technical skill. His off-the-ball movement and clinical finishing make him a constant threat. He can also drop deep or drift wide to create space, qualities that fit well within Slot’s tactical system.

Liverpool are reportedly ready to pay €25 million to secure Tzimas’s signature, with personal terms unlikely to pose an issue. Sam McGuire notes that Tzimas’s work rate and adaptability make him an exciting prospect for any top club.

Brightening the day for Liverpool fans, Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg revealed that Liverpool have initiated talks with FC Nürnberg regarding a potential summer transfer for Stefanos Tzimas. A phone call between the clubs reportedly took place a few days ago.

Núñez must quickly find consistency to secure his place at Anfield, as Slot’s system requires a dynamic and clinical forward. With January on the horizon, Tzimas could be brought in to provide competition—or potentially take Núñez’s spot altogether.
