Roy Keane remains infatuated with Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold, targeting his defensive skills once again amid the club’s recent struggles. The Manchester United legend has targeted Alexander-Arnold at every chance anyone brings up the Liverpool vice-captain’s name ahead of him.

Liverpool have started 2025 with struggles to get the right results consistently despite their dominance in the overall play. Alexander-Arnold suffered most of the criticism due to his complacent performance against Manchester United in the 2-2 Premier League draw.

However, the 26-year-old has enjoyed a vast improvement in the defensive aspect of his game Arne Slot this season. Nevertheless, these recent poor results allowed his critics to jump back into the hate-wagon amid Real Madrid and contract drama.

The England international is playing in the last season of his current Liverpool contract with Real prowling around the player. While the situation remains unclear and uncertain, the impatient section of Liverpool online fans have reacted negatively against Alexander-Arnold.

Nevertheless, the Kopites’ and the majority of the global fanbase remain supportive of their vice-captain until some clarity is presented. Speaking on the Stick to Football (via YouTube), Keane attacked Liverpool captain Alexander-Arnold once again for his defending. He said:

“If Trent Alexander-Arnold goes to Real Madrid, then good luck to him as if Madrid doesn’t know how to defend. He’s played over 300 games and played for England but he still defends like he has never played at right-back. He’s played all these games and he must do training sessions but he’s playing right back and people go at him like he’s confused and never seen something like that before. Trent defends as if Liverpool have had lots of injuries and they’ve asked him to just fill in a position.”

In 2023, Keane berated Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk for what he considered an “arrogant” take from the Dutchman towards Manchester United. In that game, Man United parked the bus to squeeze a 0-0 draw when Van Dijk bluntly responded that only one team tried to win the game.

For someone who found that honest Van Dijk opinion disrespectful, Keane has no qualms in continuously disrespecting Liverpool and anyone associated with the club. The former Man United midfielder should remember that Liverpool have still conceded the second-lowest goals in the Premier League.

However, the Reds have conceded 13 out of 26 goals in all competitions this season since December. Liverpool needs to improve collectively to return to the defensive formidability that they showed during the early stages of the season.
