Liverpool facing double injury concern ahead of Brentford fixture

Published

Liverpool are set to face Thomas Frank’s side as they visit Brentford, with the fixture set to take place at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday in a Premier League clash with both sides looking to return to winning ways. The Bees have only managed to get three points (one win) once in the past six league games; however, their recent hard-fought draw against Manchester City will mean they welcome the Reds, ull of confidence and hope to get a result.

While the Reds, who are sitting on the apex of the Premier League table, have shown a bit of inconsistency of late with Arne Slot’s side dropping points against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest alongside the EFL Cup after a loss to Tottenham Hotspur on the first leg of the semi-finals.

That being said, the Merseysiders will walk into the game with a fair bit of confidence given they are unbeaten in their last 16 Premier League matches while boasting a strong record against Brentford against whom they have won their last four meetings across all competitions. However, going into the game, Arne Slot’s side faces a bit of injury concern.

Slot admits injury concern

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot brought Diego Jota on as a substitute before he equalized for the Reds against Nottingham Forest.
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot brought Diego Jota on as a substitute before he equalized for the Reds against Nottingham Forest.

The Liverpool head coach admitted uncertainty surrounding Diogo Jota’s availability for the game. The Portuguese scored the Reds equaliser against Forest on Tuesday night, but Slot remains unsure about his availability for the game later today.

Providing an update, Slot stated

“There is no doubt about the fact Jota is an important player for us, but he wasn’t on the training ground yesterday, so that means we have to see today where he is. So, it is not sure he will be available for tomorrow. We have to wait and see today. He felt a little bit when he came in [at Forest], a little niggle during the half-hour he came in. He could finish the game, but afterwards he complained a bit about it, and that’s why he didn’t train yesterday. We have to wait and see if he is available today and then, of course, tomorrow.”

Colombian wide forward Luis Diaz was also not present in training on Thursday, but he will face a late fitness test if he is to be available for the game today.

Slot continued:

“I assume he is [fine]. Yesterday he was not allowed [to train] because he had a bit of a sore throat, but I assume he will be training with us today. I still have to hear this, but we are expecting him to train with us today.”

Not having Jota as well as Diaz would be a big miss against a side who are always up for a performance against elite sides. Hopefully Diaz passes for the game.
