Liverpool has been fortunate to boast some of the greatest attacking legends, from the iconic Kenny Dalglish to Luis Suárez, who was one of the best players in the early 2010s, to Mohamed Salah, who is currently a Ballon d’Or contender, and Fernando Torres, another great. In an interview with Amazon, Robbie Fowler was asked to rank and compare some of these legendary attackers, and he made an intriguing claim about one of his former teammates.

In the interview with Amazon, Robbie Fowler was asked to rank and compare some of Liverpool’s greatest attackers over the years. Fowler made an intriguing claim, suggesting that a modern Liverpool great is actually better than Michael Owen. The claim can actually be held accountable as the modern winger had a more significant part in Liverpool.

Sadio Mane better than Michael Owen

Robbie Fowler was asked to compare several legendary Liverpool attackers, including Michael Owen and Sadio Mané. While Owen boasts a better scoring rate than Mané, the latter enjoyed more success with Liverpool. Both players scored crucial goals in key moments, with Mané netting vital goals in the Champions League, including one in the final, while Owen also delivered in cup finals.

Mané eventually moved to Bayern Munich for £40m, while Owen joined Real Madrid in 2004. Both have left lasting legacies at Anfield, but Fowler believes Mané slightly edges the argument. Despite being one of Owen’s close friends, Fowler chose Mané when asked to pick between the two.

Interestingly, both Fowler and Owen have praised Mané in the past. The decision between Owen and Mané is a tough one, with the stats and their impact on Liverpool making it difficult to separate them.

Both Owen and Mané are absolute legends in their own right, but it’s understandable that many Liverpool fans would choose Mané over Owen in a heartbeat. Owen’s controversial move to Manchester United, where he spent the later years of his career, has left a lasting negative impression on some supporters.
