Arne Slot has done a commendable job in his first season at Liverpool, taking the Reds to the top of both the Premier League and Champions League tables despite having a squad riddled wit injuries and needing more depth.

Ahead of the next game, he provided fresh updates regarding the availability of three players.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League game at home against Ipswich Town, Reds head coach Arne Slot provided the update on the availability of Joe Gomez, Diogo Jota, and Curtis Jones.

“Maybe Jota [will be back] a bit earlier than Joe. Both of them are expected to be back with us in weeks rather than months.

“But I’ve said many times before that the last stage of rehab is the most difficult one, or the one that sometimes [can] add a few days or not. It’s clear that we are expecting them to be back with us in the upcoming weeks. It is always difficult to say exactly how long it is. Both of them are not going to be out for months, that’s for sure, as long as the rehab goes as planned.”

Jota had picked up a fresh knock after the game against Nottingham Forest recently, where he levelled the proceedings to help Liverpool get a point. Gomez, on the other hand, has been out of action for nearly a month, having gone down with a hamstring injury in a game against West Ham last month.

Jones, on the other hand, was a half-time casualty in the midweek as Liverpool beat Lille to secure direct qualification to the Round of 16 of the Champions League.

“He went out during half-time, so that’s mostly not a good sign, and it wasn’t because he will not be available for the game tomorrow. The rest we have to wait and see how long it’s going to take. I’m not expecting months… but let’s see if he’s available for PSV or Bournemouth.”

TKT Opinion

We believe Jones will the biggest miss of the three here. Midfield is where Liverpool are the thinnest, and the 23-year-old has been delivering impressive performances in the centre of the pitch. He even assisted Mo Salah’s goal in the first half.

Jota and Gomez, on the other hand, important as they are, have remained on the periphery of the starting XI mostly because of their long-term fitness issues, for they aren’t lacking talent. While they won’t be an immediate miss, Liverpool would hope they return to the pitch ahead of the Champions League knockouts.
