“I can join Liverpool”: Flamboyant PSV star fuels transfer talks
PSV Eindhoven star Johan Bakayoko heats the transfer rumours by claiming he could play for Liverpool after his goal-scoring display. PSV beat the Reds 3-2 on their home turf during the last Champions League League-Phase game of the current season.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot deployed a team filled with academy players and squad players in need of crucial game time. The young Liverpool side still managed to provide a game filled with excitement against a strong Dutch Eredivisie defending champions.
Bakayoko scored the first goal for PSV and constantly pushed Liverpool’s defensive channels with his flamboyant attacking style of play. During the latter stages of the game, the 21-year-old played a role in his team’s “rondo” showboating against the Reds.

While the moment was encouraged by the home support, PSV manager Peter Bosz slammed his team for acting too disrespectfully. Rest assured, Bakayoko enjoys a self-confidence that could either take him to the topmost echelon or make him crash and burn.
Speaking to the media (via Liverpool Echo), Bakayoko claimed that he could join Liverpool from PSV when asked if he is up to their level. He said:
“I definitely think that I can join Liverpool. We can be happy that we won against big names, but they didn’t come with the strongest team either. It’s a shame that they didn’t come with the strongest team.”
The Belgium international also addressed his manager’s criticism about disrespecting Liverpool by too much showboating in the end. He replied:
I don’t think the coach will be happy about it. I think that’s also why people come to the stadium. You saw how they reacted to that. I think that could be done a bit more. The coach has a different description of beautiful. I like gallery play, but he likes efficient football. I hear it straight from him, I know that already.”
While the 21-year-old has the age and the qualities to become a world-class talent, efficiency is the priority at Liverpool. As things stand, the Belgium international has displayed a lot of quality in possession but requires more maturity too.

At Liverpool, he would face competition from Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah and Italian forward Federico Chiesa. The two internationally recognized players can create flamboyant moments but they achieved their reputation through efficiency.
The 21-year-old has enjoyed constant links with Liverpool in the transfer market but everything is speculation at this point. Rest assured, Bakayoko has a lot to prove despite fitting the desired profile of a Liverpool attacker.
