Liverpool are enjoying a fantastic season having suffered only three defeats so far. As the winter transfer window heads to its end, the Merseyside club are yet to make any progress, making no new signings but seeing eight players depart. In recent weeks, there has been increasing speculations about their interest in signing Rayan Cherki, especially as the January transfer window began.

Lyon president John Textor has confirmed that Rayan Cherki will stay at the club beyond the deadline, despite links to a potential move to Liverpool. Several players have been rumored to join Anfield, but Arne Slot has not made any new signings since the start of the year. While a move in the winter window appears unlikely, a transfer in the summer could still be possible.

No Winter transfers for Liverpool

Rising through the ranks at Lyon, the Frenchman has become a key player, having played 167 games and contributed to 56 goals. Cherki is one of the names linked with a potential move to Liverpool this window.

However, recent reports suggest Borussia Dortmund has shown strong interest in signing the 21-year-old before the transfer window closes in Germany. Lyon reportedly values Cherki at around €22.5 million (£18.7 million) this window.

Textor confirmed that Dortmund made an offer for Cherki, but it fell well short of Lyon’s asking price. Textor has since clarified his stance on Cherki’s future amid continued rumors that Liverpool may still be interested.

“The offer from Dortmund was disrespectfully presented, well below market value, and poorly timed,” Textor told Sky Germany. “Rayan Cherki will remain a key player for us until the end of the 2024/25 season.”

“We have turned down Borussia Dortmund’s offer and have no intention of engaging in negotiations with them or any other club,”

Cherki has scored five goals and provided nine assists for Lyon this season, sparking speculation that he could leave the Ligue 1 side. However, with Textor’s recent update, it appears Liverpool may need to wait until the summer if they wish to pursue their interest, assuming it remains strong.
