Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold remains coy as Spanish outlets bombard the news cycle with his potential summer Real Madrid move. Alexander-Arnold is playing in the last season of his current contract with the Reds with an ongoing late contract negotiation.

Along with Alexander-Arnold, captain Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are the other two key players in their last season. Liverpool’s management have received criticism for letting the contract situation reach this far, considering the importance of the three players.

However, the situation involving Van Dijk and Salah is drastically different compared to the situation involving the 26-year-old English right-back. While Salah and Van Dijk have highlighted their desire to stay at Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold has remained silent amid Real interest.

Earlier this season, fans understood the stances that the players took but the Real strategy to create disharmony has annoyed the Kopites. Many have argued that Alexander-Arnold should clarify the situation instead of playing continuously coy, hurting Liverpool’s campaign in the process.

Fans are unhappy with the lack of communication from Tren Alexander-Arnold’s camp

According to the Spanish outlet Cadena SER, Real have finalized the deal with Liverpool vice-captain Alexander-Arnold, which potentially means he will leave the Reds for free. Even though the news is not reliable considering the regular misuse of Spanish media by Real to create disharmony, it is still a recurring problem.

The main concern for fans is that Alexander-Arnold has remained too silent about the situation. This situation is not similar to his previous contract negotiation with Liverpool due to the numerous factors and the few months that remain in his contract.

The 26-year-old is a local hero and developed his talents while enjoying the support of the Kopites since his childhood. The idea of him giving his prime years to another club, let alone a club like Real that has a polar opposite value to Liverpool, is unacceptable for many supporters.

Practically, Trent is one of the key assets at Liverpool and many have voiced how Alexis Mac Allister signed a new contract with Brighton to help them get a good transfer fee. As a local Scouse player, Alexander-Arnold should understand the restricted budget at which Liverpool operates against their high-spending rivals.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance this season

During the latter stages against Manchester City last weekend, Arne Slot scolded Alexander-Arnold for lethargically returning to his position. The Liverpool head coach replaced the 26-year-old immediately afterwards, highlighting his attitude in recent months that has raised many questions.

A lot of fans are unhappy with Alexander-Arnold’s dedication this season with many performances like the one against Manchester United at Anfield costing crucial points for the club. Such performances further raise the question about the 26-year-old’s commitment towards Liverpool, particularly as one of the experienced leaders.

As things stand, it is already too late for Alexander-Arnold to voice his desire, if he wants to leave. However, if the 26-year-old does leave after playing coy since December, he has no room to blame the club.

Alexander-Arnold’s decision will impact his legacy at the club and the city where he is raved as a hero. However, if he decides to leave, people will remember his silence and every poor performance he has delivered since mid-season.
