Goal-scoring Liverpool star dominated “physical” Newcastle midfield in duels
Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai continued his sensational goal-scoring form against Newcastle United in the 2-0 Premier League victory at Anfield. Szoboszlai has played a pivotal role for Liverpool this season, working hard as a number 10 to provide important balance.
However, the Hungary captain received a slight criticism for his lack of contribution as an attacking midfielder despite his influence. The 24-year-old midfielder silenced his critics in the last two games, scoring crucial goals against Manchester City and the Magpies.
Szoboszlai enjoyed a comparison with the legendary midfielder Steven Gerrard due to his all-round action and qualities on the ball. However, after last season’s great start, the Hungarian international suffered from nagging injuries and a late drop in his form.

The 24-year-old showcased that last season’s late drop in form was a minor hiccup in his early Liverpool journey. Liverpool fans have adored Szoboszlai’s relentless attitude and influence in midfield, helping his teammates in every phase of the game.
According to FotMob, Szoboszlai scored an 8.8 rating in his Player of the Match performance against the Magpies on Wednesday. The 24-year-old scored the opening goal, which was also his only touch inside the opposition box throughout the intense game.
Szobsozlai enjoyed 61 touches overall, with 89% passing accuracy from 38 total passes in a physically intense game. The Hungarian delivered 100% accurate long balls (two) during the game while winning eight out of 10 duels.
Szoboszlai also won one foul while committing two fouls of his own, showcasing his desire to stay involved in the midfield battle. Defensively, the 24-year-old won 80% of his tackles (four out of five), made one block, two clearances and eight recoveries.

The Hungary captain also completed 10 defensive actions and made one clearance through his header to complete his all-round performance. Szoboszlai’s impressive stats came against one of the most physical midfields in the Premier League, as the Magpies possess Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali in their ranks.
