Liverpool star resurrects his early season form in 2-0 win over Newcastle
Liverpool star Luis Diaz delivered an impressive performance against Newcastle United, resurrecting his early season form at the right time. The Reds beat the Magpies 2-0 at Anfield in the Premier League clash by dominating the visitors in every phase.
Liverpool are now 13 points ahead of second-placed Arsenal in the Premier League title chase with 10 games to play. Arsenal drew Nottingham Forrest in their away clash with a 45-minute gap in kick-off between the two respectively parallel games.
Diaz enjoyed a tremendous start to the season under the new head coach, Arne Slot, contributing consistently with important goals. However, the Colombian international’s contributions have dried up since the start of 2025, with only one goal from 11 games.

Diaz only scored one goal this year in all competitions against the Wolves while providing his first assist against Newcastle. Nevertheless, the overall performance from the 28-year-old impressed the fans immensely as he continuously influenced the game against the Magpies.
Newcastle use a very physical approach with an emphasis on bullying the other players in duels in all the areas. Diaz held his own against the Magpies players throughout the game and even helped his left-back Kostas Tsimikas in defending.
According to FotMob, Diaz completed the most dribbles (four), created the most chances (five) and won the most duels (nine) against Newcastle for Liverpool. The 28-year-old opened the game by making a sensational assist for Dominik Szoboszlai for the first goal of the game.
Diaz enjoyed 89% passing accuracy from the total of 37 passes with 55 touches, five inside the opposition box. He boasts a dribbling success rate of 80% and a 100% accuracy on long balls.
