Liverpool head coach Arne Slot shuns the idea of any fear of high-spending Paris Saint-Germain ahead of their upcoming Champions League clash. Liverpool dominated the Champions League’s League phase, finishing at the top of the table to reach the round of 16.

Meanwhile, PSG defeated Brest in the playoffs after finishing 15th in the Champions League’s League phase earlier this season. The French club lost three games and drew once in the League phase, while Liverpool only lost one game.

Nevertheless, Liverpool have not reaped the reward of finishing first under the new format as the French club remains a formidable foe. The Reds are already at the top of the Premier League after creating a 13-point gap between themselves and Arsenal.

Liverpool legends Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have played a pivotal role for the club this season. Liverpool boss Arne Slot will expect the duo to play a critical role against Paris Saint-Germain.

Speaking in the post-match press conference after the Newcastle United victory (via Liverpoolfc.com), Slot rejected the reporter’s idea that Liverpool should fear Paris Saint-Germain. He said:

“I don’t think we fear teams. I don’t think the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Real Madrid, these kind of clubs don’t fear opponents. But we definitely respect them and there’s a reason for that, and that’s what you just said – that they won so many games in a row and they have so many quality players. I think it’s going to be a very interesting game for everybody who loves football. I would be surprised if people who are neutral watch a different game than that one because I think everyone – including Paris Saint-Germain and us – are looking forward to the game.”

PSG showed their spending capabilities in January by signing highly-reputed winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Napoli for a huge sum. The French club have already bolstered their squad by recruiting Joao Neves, Desire Doue, Willian Pacho and Matvey Safonov.

However, Liverpool have a big advantage with only a Premier League game against Southampton between the two-legged bouts against PSG. The Reds are also enjoying a week-long rest before playing the away game against the French side.

Slot’s new style of play have allowed more control in the way Liverpool approaches the games, maintaining their fitness. Unlike last season, Liverpool have most of the first-team regulars available to perform at their optimum level at this stage.

However, complacency remains a threat for the Reds, who slightly dropped their form before their recent resurrection. Liverpool beat Manchester City and Newcastle United convincingly as their second-place rivals, Arsenal dropped four points in six games.
