Liverpool wants £55m for Diogo Jota amid interest from his former club Wolves along with several other top European clubs. Despite his positive relationship with the fanbase and the club, Jota has struggled with unreliable fitness records and inconsistent performances.

The 28-year-old Portuguese forward has received criticism in recent weeks as he has failed to justify the regular starting role. Jota has received praise for his clinical finishing and trickery in the final third but his overall game is limited.

As the Portuguese struggled to provide contributions with goals in recent weeks, those limitations have turned into a severe liability. Nevertheless, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has maintained his faith in Jota as the first-choice number nine at the club.

However, things can drastically change in the summer as Liverpool needs to make ruthless decisions after facing similar issues two seasons in a row. The Reds faced elimination from the Champions League and lost the Carabao Cup final to Newcastle United. The sudden drop in their level of performance is similar to what happened at the latter end of the last season.

According to TeamTalk, Liverpool wants £55m for Jota amid interest from his former club Wolves. The Reds signed the Portuguese from Wolves in 2020 and he enjoyed a good tenure despite continuous fitness battles.

However, Slot’s style of play demands a more complete number nine compared to what Jota and other options provide. Jota failed to win many duels against PSG and Newcastle and provide any outlet to the Reds throughout those fixtures.

Liverpool star Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz have faced severe criticism for their inability to help the team as an attacking outlets in open play.

His limitations during the transition from the middle third to the attacking third are a perennial concern. Meanwhile, the Portuguese’s in-squad competition Darwin Nunez is completely opposite to what Jota provides. While Nunez is strong in overall play, he consistently fails to finish clear-cut chances and gets caught offside very often.

The Dutchman used this season as a chance to assess the squad he inherited from the legendary Jurgen Klopp. Given the recent performances of Jota and his history with nagging injuries, he is a luxury that Liverpool cannot afford. Since 15th January 2025, Jota has featured in 10 games in all competitions and only managed to provide one assist.
