Burnley vs Liverpool: Match Preview | Premier League 2025/26

Liverpool will return to Premier League action this weekend as the English top-tier champions are back on the road. Arne Slot’s unbeaten Reds will head to Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon as they take on a Burnley team still finding its feet in the top flight.

And while this game looks a lot like formality on paper, given that Scott Parker’s side are playing at home, it does give them a puncher’s chance to pull a surprise result against the Merseysiders.

The Reds have enjoyed a splendid start to their campaign. Three wins from three. But more importantly, these wins include a six-pointer win from fellow title contenders Arsenal. And this has seen them climb straight to the top of the table. But all was all without their top summer target.

Now Liverpool have officially unveiled Alexander Isak after a £125m move to L4. And we have seen the Reds’ firepower go up to another level.

Liverpool have now scored in 37 consecutive league games, which is a club record. But going into the game, the expectations would be to have those three points for the fourth straight time, which would match the Reds’ best-ever start under Klopp in 2019/20. If we look back, Liverpool did win the Premiership that season. The mood around Anfield suggests they’re eyeing a repeat.

But with Atletico Madrid up next in the midweek, Slot may be forced into a few changes (or maybe early subs) as he looks to keep his players fresh.

While Burnley under Scott Parker are coming off two away defeats to Tottenham and Man United. But that said, last time they played at home, they picked up some crucial three points against Sunderland. The Clarets remain unbeaten at Turf Moor in 25 straight league games.

Alexander Isak
Will Isak make his Reds debut in Burnley vs Liverpool?

Amdouni will serve the sidelines for the hosts with a knee injury, while Beyer and Roberts remain doubtful. They did sign Florentino Luis on loan from Benfica, and he could be in line to make his debut for Burnley.

While Frimpong continues to serve sidelines with hamstring problems. Konate is expected to return back to consideration for the Reds after his injury problem in the last game. And Slot confirmed that Curtis Jones will be missing the trip to Burnley. He said, “Curtis Jones, of course. I don’t know if you knew, but he got injured in the last game, so he will not be available for the game against Burnley.”

Alexander Isak is most likely to make his debut in the infamous Reds. But given how he has not had a proper pre-season, you’d expect him to most likely come off the bench for the first few games.

Predicted Lineup:

Burnley (4-3-3): Dubravka; Walker, Ekdal, Esteve, Hartman; Ugochukwu, Cullen, Florentino, Bruun Larsen, Foster, Anthony

Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Szoboszlai, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo, Ekitike

Burnley vs Liverpool – Prediction

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has played a pivotal role for Arne Slot this season.
Burnley vs Liverpool looks to be favoring the visitors on paper.

This one on the page has to be weighing down towards the Reds. Burnley are still adapting to the Premier League, and this is surely not the game where they will get that breather.

Ekitike looks like he is in form, and then Salah is Salah, and even if we could get some 20 or so minutes from Isak, it could end up getting ugly for the hosts.
