Why injury to this Asian Liverpool star could possibly spell curtains for his career in the elite leagues?

Wataru Endo injury

The star in question was stretchered off during the game against Sunderland.

Wataru Endo suffered a devastating injury during Liverpool’s away fixture against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. The Japanese international, who started for the Reds in place of the suspended Dominik Szoboszlai, was doing a decent job until he suffered a non-contact ankle injury and went down.

He was later stretchered off after a few minutes. Following Liverpool’s 1-0 win, Arne Slot addressed Endo’s injury. The manager confirmed that the injury was a serious one, with the assessment for the injury to take place soon. However, he did add that Endo would be out for a ‘long time.’

Why this injury could spell doom to Wataru Endo’s career at the highest-level?

Endo only recently came off an injury on the 10th of January, having missed 7 games for the Reds during that period. He had another minor injury prior to that as well, missing a couple of games.

This was the Japanese international’s first start for the club this season in 26 games, and the injury couldn’t have come at a worser time. Endo is already 33, and probably being out for the season from now will leave him with one year left on his contract (which ends in June 2027).

Given the fast-paced nature of the league, and his recent injury history, the Reds might consider cashing in on the Japanese national team captain in the summer, and it’s pretty evident that he wouldn’t find suitors from the big leagues or at least the top football clubs.

Hence, this injury could probably end Endo’s career at the highest-level at least, especially if it turns out to be very serious.
