Divock Origi was the unlikely hero for Liverpool as they defeated Everton in the Merseyside derby. The Reds looked set for a point against their neighbours but Jordan Pickford made a mess of a sliced Virgil van Dijk shot.
The ball hit the crossbar twice before landing right in front of Origi and the Belgian reacted quickly to nod in the winner in the 96th minute.
The win ensured we kept pace with Manchester City and stayed a couple of points behind Pep Guardiola’s side.
The Reds did have some great chances to score but Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri wasted our best opportunities. On the other side, Alisson had a point-blank save from Andre Gomes to talk about while Joe Gomez kept the ball from trickling over the line.
However, the evening was all about Origi. The Belgian cannot get a start for us this season and only had 11 minutes of first-team action, but this goal will forever be etched in history.
The 23-year-old has had a tough time in recent years but this was an incredible reward for someone who never seems to give up.
The Liverpool fans certainly loved their hero of the night and here are some of their reactions.
