Mats Hummels has weighed in on the debate on who is the best centre-back in the world, and his answer was simple and sweet.
Virgil van Dijk has been excellent for Liverpool since signing from Southampton and Hummels was asked if the Dutch defender was the best in the world at the moment.
The Bayern Munich defender answered “Yes” and that goes on to show how impressive Van Dijk has been at Anfield.

The defender was at his best against Brighton as we beat the Seagulls 1-0. Mohamed Salah might have scored the winner, but credit has to be given to the defence for nullifying the home attack.
Hummels has won several Bundesliga titles and even picked up the World Cup with Germany in 2014. Bayern will face Liverpool in the Champions League round of 16, and that should be a special tie.
There is one major problem for Liverpool ahead of that tie, with Van Dijk missing the first leg. The Dutch defender is suspended for the Anfield leg but he should be present in the team for the trip to Munich.
Bayern have Thomas Muller suspended for both legs, and it will be interesting to see how we do against the Bavarian giants.

We have a great attack and an even better defence, and hopefully, we qualify for the next round of the competition without too much fuss.
