Former Nantes employee Emmanuel Merceron claims that the French club want Divock Origi on loan (h/t Daily Star). The French club were in the news recently as former striker Emiliano Sala disappeared while travelling to Cardiff.

The Ligue 1 club are looking for a new striker but Merceron believes Origi’s salary and other clubs being interested in the Belgian might scupper the deal.

Origi had a great time with Lille before joining Liverpool, however, things have not gone well for the striker for a couple of years now.

The 23-year-old has played just 73 minutes of Premier League football this season. However, he scored an important goal, helping us defeat Everton in the Merseyside derby.

The Belgian is unlikely to get regular starts until the end of the season and Merceron tweeted (h/t Daily Star):

“Because life goes on, but not too keen to linger: the #FCNantes looks Divock original (Liverpool) for a loan.

“Astronomical salary, big European competition, complicated but on a misunderstanding. The NCF would like to make a move for its new centre-forward.”

Origi needs to play regular football and a move away from Anfield would be great for the Belgian. However, Liverpool need to have forward options should injuries affect our attackers.

The Reds have been a little lucky with the star trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane not picking up major injuries as we look to win a trophy under Jurgen Klopp.

The German sold Dominic Solanke to Bournemouth and it would be a bit of a surprise if Origi is allowed to leave in this window as it would weaken our squad to an extent.
